First days back to school are probably the hardest for everyone. You have your new kindergarteners who either are ready and walk right in or have big separation anxiety. Which means lots of tears and crying throughout the day. You also have sad parents who just watched their baby go to school for the first time. It can be a super emotional time.
As a school counselor on meet the teacher night I put out information on separation anxiety and why school attendance is important. In the parent news letter I also put in links to parent videos or read aloud on the subject. My hope and wish is for all my students and parents to show up and feel comfortable and ready to come to school. Dare say excited!
I do know this the first week of school for staff and students is the most exhausting. So if you know a teacher or anyone who works at a school please give them grace on their first week back. It gets better I promise. Also those cranky kids will get back to their routines and it won’t be so bad either.
Here is to a great school year everyone!
